Hole In One-Prove It!
Ok. So here is my story…
My brother’s friend and I went golfing about 5:30PM last August. There was hardly anyone on the course, so we were playing as fast as we could so we could try and get in 18 holes before it got dark. I was playing pretty good through the first seven holes and I had just come off a bogey at the 7th hole, so I was kind of bummed…. Now, the 8th hole is 165-yard hole from the tees. Everyone talks about how difficult the hole is because you can’t really see the whole flag from the tee box, and there is two sand traps on each side of the green. If you hit the ball left of the sand trap there is a hill that kicks everything out of bounds. If you hit the ball right of the right green side trap you are pretty much in jail behind all these huge trees. Once you get on the green there is two slopes that will either take you off to the right rough or back down the hill onto the fairway (if you hit it short)..This hole is hard! I usually use a 4 wood to hit the shot, but I had my Dad’s 5 wood in my bag, so I decided to hit that instead. My brother’s friend said I should hit first. So, I teed it up-smashed the ball and I hit it towards the middle of the green. That day the flag was just right of middle and and there is a slope that feeds the ball to the right-only if you can hit your ball far enough onto the green to get to the slope. Most eveyone just tries to hit the green and be happy with wherever it stops. I saw the ball hit the green more towards the middle back of the green. As I hoped, it started rolling right at the pin. Like I said, it is hard to see the hole, so as we were watching the ball land and so I really was not where on the slope my ball had hit. From what we could see, the ball started rolling towards the back right of the green. Then all of a sudden the ball completely disappeared! I looked at my brother’s friend and said, “Do you see it-Did it go in?” He said it might have, so we both started sprinting towards the green! We completely left all our clubs on the tee box and ran all the way up to the green. When we got to the green, we looked around but didn’t see my ball-not in the rough-not in the sand. This is when your heart starts beating and you can literallly hear it (plus I was breathing hard from runing all the way up to the green). I started thinking..Praying…and then there it was-MY GOLF BALL WAS IN THE HOLE!! At that point, brother’s friend gave me a hug high five, and we started screaming and hollering on the green. Now, the problem was that no one saw it happen (no adult that is)… Remember the commercial where the kid gets a hole in One and no one is around, but when he gets to the green this old guy in a cart says “great shot kid.” Well, that wasn’t the case here!! So, we decided to run to tell the pro shop! We literally ran all the way up the par 5 ninth hole and stumbled out of breath into the clubhouse. We told the Pro at the shop about the shot and he was really cool about it. He asked us to tell him about it and then he went in the backroom and made a sign that I had got a hole in one on the 8th hole and that everyone was entitled to a free drink (Soft drink of course)!
Now, here is the funny (or not so funny) part….. In the past I had on a couple of occasions exagerated my golf game to my parents. Like saying I shot a 36 on nine holes, when it was really a 42. So, after I called my Dad and Mom but couldn’t reach them, I had my brother’s friend leave a message telling them that I legitimately got a hole in One! Then later on, I asked the club pro to call him and tell him it was all true..It took a while as my Dad thought for sure we were lying or trying to pull off a joke (he has never gotten a hole in one and he has been golfing for 29 years (hahah), but after he got a call from the Pro at the shop-he knew it was real. Today, I have a plaque at the golf course with my name on it that shows that I got a Hole in One! Now, how cool is that!! Oh yeah-my Dad had to pay for everyone’s drinks!
